How Strong Is Your Love?

February is the month for love.  Whether you are single, married, or still deciding, I am going to share a few tips with you that can help to improve your love life.  Did you know that strength training can do more for you than just make you look good and feel great?  Over time, consistent and regular workouts can also help to improve your performance below the belt.  That's right, I am talking about the stuff that happens behind closed doors.  Do I have your attention now?  In order to better help you with this, here are some facts you should know.

The first thing you should know is that both exercise and sex have been proven to help decrease stress levels, lower blood pressure, improve self-esteem, and elevate mood.  Basically, both your stamina in the gym and your stamina in the bedroom can lead to a healthier and happier life.  Ideally you would focus on 3 aspects of fitness:  1) cardiovascular endurance, 2) flexibility, and 3) strength.

Although you can improve your cardiovascular system by walking, cycling, running, etc...I prefer to make my strength training workouts more cardiovascular by putting them into a circuit format.  Not only is this extremely time efficient, but it is also extremely effective.  Improvements in flexibility can be accomplished simply by adding a dynamic warm-up before you exercise and by stretching after you exercise.  Being limber can make a lot of things in life more enjoyable.  Although total body body strengthening is important, there are certain exercises that if performed correctly can help you to spice up your social life.

1) The Deep Squat

Whether you realize it or not, you already squat everyday.  Simply sitting down and standing up again is basically a squat.  You do not have to squat with a bunch of weight on your back, but you do need to have good range of motion.  With good form and a little coaching you can perform nice deep squats without aggravating your knees.

2) The Stability Ball Hamstring Curl

The hamstrings should be powerful muscles.  Unfortunately, because most of our daily activities involve moving forward...our hamstrings get neglected.  The stability ball hamstring curl incorporates not only your hamstrings, but it also works all of the the muscles involved in hip extension.

3) The Push Up

Push ups are one of the most common exercises in the gym.  They are also one that is performed incorrectly on a regular basis.  If you cannot do a push up with good form, work on being in a plank position.  Being in a plank position works your arms and core at the same time.  It doesn't hurt that they give your upper body great definition.

4) The Kettlebell Swing

You absolutely must see the kettlebell swing to understand it's importance.  Once you nail the proper form, it will become a regular exercise in your routine.

5) The Bodyweight Row

The bodyweight row is a pulling exercise that works your core, your back, and your arms. Moving your own bodyweight through space is a great way to train more functionally.

We all know that daily exercise is important.  However, that doesn't necessarily mean we want to do it.  Knowing the reasons why you exercise helps you to stay more motivated.  When you are motivated, your workouts become more effective and you get results faster.  So whether you are trying to look better or function better, exercise is the answer.  Start with a routine today that is directly related to your goals and begin having more fun in all areas of life.
