College Interns

Gainesville Health & Fitness internships give college students the opportunity to gain a more accurate understanding of what it takes to work in the fitness industry.

You will work closely with mutliple key departments for firsthand experience in the professional fitness industry.

Qualifications include:

  • Basic computer skills, including Word and Excel
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills
  • Must be an active college student receiving college credit

Intern Responsibilities for Key Departments

By working closely with several key departments our interns gain firsthand experience in the professional fitness industry. Some of the key departments include:

By spending time with each of these departments you will understand how they work together to benefit the company as a whole. All internships positions are unpaid and must receive academic credit.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Hiring Department

  • Receiving and screening applications; scheduling interviews; calling and meeting with applicants
  • Administrative duties include but not limited to scanning documents, special projects, data entry and answering phones
  • Conducting pre-screening interviews for applicants, maintain application log and hire track
  • Set up orientation for new interns
  • Assisting with college internship program, maintain current postings at universities
  • File appropriate documents in employee folders, maintain files, and organize files.
  • Attend meetings with departmental heads
  • Assisting with and coordinates recruitment efforts, which may include attending job fairs

Membership Sales Department

  • Fitness selling process; Shadow of Membership Counselors
  • Managing budgeting of sales and operations; Trending; Setting budgets
  • Calls to members 7 & 30 days into membership to manage beginning experience and progress
  • Screen for interviews; What to look for in Hiring Sales Counselors
  • Assisting with sales management, data analysis; coaching; using and managing the numbers

Personal Training Department

  • Taking body fat compositions; Visual Fitness Planner consults
  • Shadow Personal Training
  • Assist in group circuit training

Operations Management/Service Department

  • Assist Operational Manager in overall daily activities and special projects
  • Complete floor instructor initial training and begin work on floor shift
  • Complete receptionist training and began work on front desk shift
  • Assist in facility projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Marketing/Public Relations/Advertising Department

  • Assist Marketing team with various marketing projects (member surveys, research, observation, etc.)
  • In club marketing promotions (eagle program, seminars, special events)
  • Coordinate monthly seminars from various departments (PT, ReQuest Physical Therapy, etc.)
  • Coordinate special events (Member Savings Showcase, Open Houses, employee events and more!)
  • Business networking by establishing relationships with local businesses that can be mutually beneficial
  • Managing member services
  • Assisting marketing department with promotions for internal and external marketing
  • Recognize and understand the components of sponsorship, public relations, sales and operations and its use and importance in our industry
