Frequently Asked Questions
What is Kinstretch?
Kinstretch is a movement enhancement system that develops maximum body control, flexibility and USABLE ranges of motion. Designed by chiropractors, physical therapists and physical conditioning experts, Kinstretch utilizes techniques proven by scientific research to improve joint integrity, joint function, and physical longevity. In addition, Kinstretch involves a proven method of self-assessment that will allow you to assess your own body to see what areas may be limiting you, causing you pain or discomfort, or putting you at risk for injury. While it was originally designed for the everyday person, Kinstretch instruction is used by many professional athletic organizations around the world, including clubs from the MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL.
How will it help me?
Kinstretch gets you better at you. In other words, whatever activity you do, whether it be running, yoga, CrossFit, bodybuilding, or just moving around your house, Kinstretch will allow you to do those activities better. When you make joints work nice, everything you do becomes more efficient.
How is this different from yoga/pilates/any other ‘stretch’ class?
Yoga and pilates are fantastic forms of exercise that will help you feel better, move better and improve overall health. However, neither of those forms of exercise are specifically designed with the intent of improving joint function, joint integrity, and movement enhancement. This class is the only group course that is scientifically designed to make each individual joint function more optimally, thereby making each movement you perform easier, more efficient, and safer.
What should I expect from this class?
This is by no means a sit and stretch class. Mobility training, when done correctly, is STRENGTH training. Each class will include a global assessment of what functions well, what might not be functioning properly, and a specific focus on a certain body area. In addition, once we identify problem areas, we will give you drills to work on by yourself to ensure you’re making progress outside the gym.
Can I do this class if I am rehabbing an injury?
This will depend on your specific injury, however before beginning any exercise program during or post-rehab, please consult a physical therapist. As mentioned above, each class can be modified based on your specific limitations or strengths. The body needs repeated inputs in order to change, and no matter what level you’re at, we can adjust each exercise to ensure consistent progress.
Who is this class for?
Because your instructor will be able to modify each movement in the class to your ability level, this class can be scaled for anyone looking to improve their joint function, movements and overall wellness. If you have a specific area you are concerned about, please email Patrick Cummings.
