1) What is Pilates? Pilates blends strength, flexibility, and body awareness into one powerful practice. Created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, this workout emphasizes controlled movements and mindful breathing to boost your overall fitness.
At the heart of Pilates is its focus on core strength. This means targeting your abs, lower back, hips, and glutes, which leads to better posture and a more stable spine. Flexibility is another major perk, as Pilates exercises help lengthen and stretch your muscles, increasing mobility and reducing injury risk.
Alignment and posture are key in Pilates, ensuring you move efficiently and without strain. Plus, the mind-body connection in Pilates encourages you to focus on precise movements and controlled breathing, promoting mindfulness and concentration during your workouts.
Our Pilates studios feature specialized equipment like the Reformer, Cadillac, and Chair. These tools offer different levels of resistance and support, making Pilates adaptable for all fitness levels and goals. Whether you're recovering from an injury, boosting your athletic performance, or simply aiming for a fitter, healthier you, Pilates provides a holistic approach to achieving balance and wellness.
2) What should I wear to my Pilates session?Because Pilates exercises work through full ranges of motion, it is recommended that you wear fitted workout pants and a comfortable exercise top. You do not need shoes for Pilates classes, however some clients prefer to wear toe socks with grip along the bottom to prevent slipping. Grip socks are available for purchase in a variety of sizes and styles in the retail area near the front desk of each club.
